Digital Materiality

CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY AND OBJECTS

„Sequences of digital zeros and ones meet the intricacies and textures of physical reality to shape a novel material culture.“

— Consuelo Keller

CREATIVE CODING

For designing her pieces Consuelo Keller uses different advanced computer-aided design software to create digital models. Especially she experiments with code, playing with numbers and variables to find new shapes. She not only designs single objects, but programs whole systems with sets of rules that enable the exploration of vast design spaces.

DIGITAL MANUFACTURING

In her practice she continuously switches from the digital to the material and back. To materialize her designs she mainly uses 3D printers. Her pieces highlight the characteristics, aesthetics and possibilities of digital fabrication. She experiments with different technologies, machines and materials.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

All her pieces involve skillful handwork. Depending on the material, many different steps as sanding, polishing, dying, casting, coating and applying a patina are required, demanding extensive manual labor and the use of traditional handcraft methods.
